NFL Week Five Shocker: Eagles Fall to Broncos while Patriots Stun Bills

NFL Action

The last two unbeaten teams in the NFL saw their perfect records shattered during the fifth week as the Philadelphia Eagles along with Buffalo Bills suffered surprising losses on their own turf.

Denver's football team evolved from dark horses to front-page news thanks to an impressive rallying win against the current Super Bowl title holders the Eagles, prior to boarding a flight for Sunday's overseas contest.

The New England Patriots then visited Buffalo and halted Buffalo's perfect record with a statement win of their own in their initial primetime appearance in twelve months.

Baltimore's team experienced a third consecutive defeat - their defensive struggles could be fatal for their play-off aspirations - while Dallas, Indianapolis, and Detroit enjoyed decisive victories on yet another eventful Sunday.

Denver Downs Title Holders

It wasn't just beating the reigning title holders, but the manner of their comeback from 14 points down that made Denver's win by 21-17 in Philadelphia such a signature success.

The Eagles had won 10 games consecutively, 12 straight at home and 20 out of 21 total before Broncos quarterback Bo Nix orchestrated two scoring drives in five fourth-quarter minutes and a late field goal.

Philadelphia are currently 4-1 but there exists a big worry about the offence, which ranks as the poorest performing in the NFL. Wideout DaVonta Smith stated they are not "on the same page" with QB Jalen Hurts.

Denver's defence, which tackled Hurts on six occasions, had much to contribute with the outcome, and, together with an established starting QB in Nix and top head coach in Sean Payton, they have all the ingredients to launch a serious challenge.

The Broncos meet New York's Jets at Tottenham Stadium on Sunday.

Patriots on National TV Shock Buffalo

If Denver's win was almost half expected, nobody saw the Patriots traveling to Buffalo and beating Josh Allen's Bills, but they accomplished it with tremendous resilience.

Their initial national television appearance for Drake Maye delivered a star-making showing as he led a decisive field goal drive in the final moments to win 23-20.

The young QB was tough and made the right throws at crucial moments, many to former Bills receiver Stefon Diggs, who had an outstanding performance for Mike Vrabel's side.

The head coach was anticipated to turn things around in New England, but such a significant victory came sooner than most expected.

New England Defensive Unit

The Patriots defence bottled up Buffalo's offensive efforts during their surprising away win.

Baltimore Postseason Dreams Dashed?

This campaign is becoming a disaster for Baltimore, who were missing a host of key defenders as they were dominated 44-10 by the Houston Texans.

It matched their largest loss at home, and dropping to 1-4 for this year means among the preseason Super Bowl contenders have only a slim opportunity of making the play-offs.

The Ravens are currently 4-11 playing without superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson, who was injured, but the real issue is an exceptionally poor defense that is the real problem - for a franchise that have been known for stout defense over the years.

The Texans strolled to the win as Baltimore became the first team in modern NFL history to concede a minimum of 37 points in four out of five contests. Their campaign is already over.

Detroit, Tampa and Indianapolis Reach 4-1

The Lions' backfield tandem Gibbs and Montgomery scored a touchdown in the same game for the fourteenth occasion - a shared NFL record - as the Lions put away the Cincinnati Bengals 37-24.

The win made it four victories consecutively for the league's top scorers Detroit, but none against opponents with positive records.

A more unexpected 4-1 side are the Indianapolis Colts. With their star running back scoring three touchdowns in their 40-6 hammering of Las Vegas and signal-caller Daniel Jones appearing as a new man, they will be a difficult opponent for any team.

Tampa Bay entered the 4-1 club with a mesmeric 38-35 win in Seattle in which both teams traded nine touchdowns in 10 impressive possessions before Seattle cracked first with a final-minute turnover.

Chase McLaughlin booted the game-winner with the final play of the game for the second time this season. Each of the Bucs' wins have been clinched in the final moments.

Saints and Titans Get Help for Initial Victories

The way New Orleans and Tennessee started this campaign, they required assistance to get their first wins, and they got plenty due to several comical mistakes from the New York Giants and Arizona Cardinals.

Following a strong opening from first-year player Jaxson Dart, New York made five giveaways - one was crucially taken back for six points - while also allowing Rashid Shaheed to find the end zone on a long reception as the Saints prevailed 26-14.

The Cardinals were even worse as they blew a substantial advantage primarily thanks to two huge blunders.

Initially, Emari Demercado unexplainably dropped the ball just before reaching the end zone for a long touchdown.

More disastrous followed when Arizona intercepted Cam Ward near their own goal line, then fumbled the football across the goal line for Tyler Lockett to score as Tennessee ended a ten-contest slide with a 22-21 win.

Seahawks Receiver

Tyler Lockett scored among the most bizarre touchdowns we'll see this year.

This left the Jets as the sole victory-less team remaining in the NFL after their bruising 37-22 loss by the Cowboys.

Jayden Daniels became the first player in NFL history to surpass 4,000 passing yards and 1K on the ground in his initial twenty career games as he came back from being hurt to guide the Washington Commanders to a notable 27-10 victory at the Los Angeles Chargers.

The running back was the star man for Carolina with over 200 yards on the ground in their exciting 27-24 victory over Miami.
